Blue Waters Inn, Tobago

Brand Identity + Brand Architecture

The Blue Waters hotel, located in Speyside, Tobago, is enclosed by mountains and lush greenery and sits on a secluded cove with a private beach, giving ocean views from each room. The surrounding nature encourages many birds that attract bird-watchers to the hotel—often catching views and pictures of the mot-mot bird, among many others. But Blue Waters is not just for bird watchers; it’s also for vacationers coming for a relaxing, secluded getaway with on-site restaurants.
I worked directly with the marketing manager of this Trinidadian family-owned hotel. Taking the time to understand the history of the hotel and the meaning to the family. Though loved, the original sign, a beautifully hand-painted Mot Mot bird, no longer reflected the hotel’s current position or future goals. To design a preferable future for the brand, we needed to understand and communicate the many unique qualities of Blue Waters Inn. For the logo design, I kept that arch shape of the original mark as it also mimicked the curve of the beach cove and kept the iconic mot-mot bird, but we created clarity for a stronger brandmark. I worked through many iterations to balance the parts of the identity and combine them elegantly. The colour palette was pulled from the surrounding environment to create each branding touchpoint, from stationery to signage.
